ChineyK Is Ready for Her Next Act

Playing Detective Tessa Riley in Stew Peas was a first for Kerry-Ann Collins.

Better known as ChineyK or ChineyKPopgirl, she had already built a career that stretched across radio, social media, entrepreneurship and television. But Stew Peas put her somewhere new: in her first feature-film role.

Then came a Best Actress nomination at the Caribbean Film Awards.

For ChineyK, the experience did more than add acting to an already long list of accomplishments. It reignited an ambition she now wants to pursue well beyond the Caribbean.

“Acting is a huge part of that next chapter for me,” she says. “Stew Peas reignited something that I’ve always had a passion for, and I want to pursue more film and television opportunities internationally while continuing to grow as a creator, media personality and entrepreneur.”

It is the latest turn in a career that has rarely stayed in one lane.

A Personality That Became a Platform

Long before social media became a career, ChineyK was already accustomed to entertaining an audience.

Working in media and radio gave her a place to do what came naturally: talk, entertain and connect with people. When social media emerged as another outlet, she began sharing the same kinds of things that made up her everyday life—funny moments, opinions, experiences and stories.

There wasn't a grand strategy behind it.

“It happened very organically,” she says. “I was already working in media and radio, so entertaining and connecting with an audience was something I loved. Social media eventually became another outlet for that.”

People responded to the personality behind the posts.

What began as simply being herself online gradually became a community. And as that community grew, so did the possibilities around it.

“What started as me simply being myself online eventually grew into a community and opened doors to brand partnerships, entrepreneurship, travel, television and film.”

ChineyK's content today can move from comedy and conversations about Jamaican culture to motherhood, beauty, fashion, travel and behind-the-scenes moments from her acting journey.

The subject might change. The personality doesn't.

“I’m unapologetically myself,” she says. “I don’t try to create a perfect version of my life for social media. I’m expressive, dramatic, funny, sometimes a little chaotic 😂, and I’m not afraid to laugh at myself.”

That refusal to create a perfect version of her life online, or confine herself to a particular category, has become part of the appeal.

“I think people connect with the fact that regardless of what I’m doing, it still feels like ChineyK.”

The Platform Became a Doorway

There have been plenty of milestones along the way, but winning The Social House stands out.

For ChineyK, the win demonstrated just how strongly her personality and creativity could connect with an audience.

But some of the most meaningful consequences of building that audience would come later.

“Seeing how creating content opened doors I never imagined when I first started” is among the things she values most about the journey.

One of those doors led to Stew Peas.

Taking on Detective Tessa Riley gave ChineyK the opportunity to step into a different form of storytelling, while the Best Actress nomination that followed offered validation in a space she is only beginning to explore professionally.

The experience also crystallized something about the career she has been building all along.

“Those moments remind me that being a creator doesn’t have to limit you to one lane,” she says. “Sometimes the platform you build becomes the doorway to the next version of yourself.”

For ChineyK, that next version is beginning to take shape.

A Bigger Stage

The goal now isn't simply to become a bigger creator.

ChineyK wants to take the career and audience she has built in Jamaica and the Caribbean and expand internationally, with acting playing a significant role in that move.

She wants more opportunities in film and television, while continuing the work that already made her recognizable as a creator, media personality and entrepreneur.

Rather than choosing between those identities, she sees a future where they can exist alongside one another.

“Ultimately, I want to build a career and brand that can move seamlessly between the Caribbean and the global entertainment industry while still remaining authentically Jamaican.”

That last part matters.

International expansion, in ChineyK's vision, doesn't require becoming less Jamaican to become more global. The ambition is to move between both worlds while keeping the identity that has shaped her work intact.

It is a significant leap, but perhaps not an unnatural one for someone whose career has repeatedly expanded because she was willing to follow an opportunity into unfamiliar territory.

As she puts it: “You really never know where one post or one opportunity can lead you.”

Creativity Without a Box

Even the creators ChineyK admires reflect her appetite for originality.

She enjoys the work of Caribbean creators including Kyle Boss, JR Lee and Bad Sekki, but singles out Life of a King for the way he approaches creativity.

“@life.of.a.king, though, is someone I consider a creative genius,” she says. “The way he thinks outside the box and brings his ideas to life is something I really admire.”

What catches her attention isn't simply popularity. It's creative identity.

“I appreciate creators who have their own distinct style and aren’t afraid to push the boundaries creatively.”

It's fitting for someone who has resisted putting her own work into a box.

ChineyK can be behind a microphone, making people laugh online, building a business, sharing motherhood, appearing on television or stepping onto a film set. Each has become another expression of the same career rather than a departure from the last.

And now, the possibilities she once discovered through social media are pointing toward an even larger stage.

The creator platform is still there. So are the personality, the community and the unmistakably Jamaican identity that built it.

But ChineyK has already seen what can happen when one opportunity opens the door to another.

This time, she's walking through it with her sights set beyond the Caribbean.
