Mz. Moodyy Makes People Laugh. Her Reason for Creating Runs Much Deeper.

For Sequoia Boney, better known online as Mz. Moodyy, making people laugh comes naturally.

The bigger reason she keeps creating is much more personal.

Her family isn't just a source of some of her funniest material. They're the motivation behind what she hopes to build, including helping her parents stop working, buying them land and a home, and creating generational wealth for her son and the family that comes after him.

Born and raised in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, with parents from Dominica and St. Lucia, Mz. Moodyy's humor draws from the stories, personalities, and experiences she grew up around.

She considers all three islands home, and that mix of Caribbean influences has helped shape both the woman and creator she has become.

“I’d say what makes my content unique is that it’s my life. The things and stories I grew up hearing and seeing.”

Today, she turns that life into funny, relatable and joyful content—along with glimpses into her everyday experiences.

From theatre dreams to social media

Mz. Moodyy officially started creating content around 2020, but says things really began taking off around 2023 and 2024.

Behind the comedy was another ambition she had carried for years: acting.

She has always been drawn to theatre and aspires to become an actress, so social media became another way to put herself and her creativity in front of people.

Her explanation for taking that step is characteristically straightforward.

“I decided to use my social media platform to help me get out there. Also, somebody gotta pay the bills.”

That personality carries into the content itself.

Rather than trying to manufacture a particular online persona, Mz. Moodyy draws inspiration from the things happening around her and whatever unexpected idea happens to enter her head.

“The crazy ideas that pop in my head are just another way to express myself.”

At the center of it all is a simple goal: making people laugh and bringing joy, whether they're elsewhere in the Caribbean or much farther away.

The family behind the funny

Some of Mz. Moodyy's most meaningful content isn't created alone.

Her little brother, Shiff340, has become an important part of both her content and her creative process. Their Mikal JohnBaptiste and son skits have become some of her most meaningful work.

“Without him, I wouldn’t be here talking to you guys.”

Their creative relationship matters beyond what audiences eventually see on screen.

Mz. Moodyy says there are days when she doesn't feel like working, and her brother is the person who can pull her out of that funk and get them creating together.

“Our Mikal JohnBaptiste and son skits are the highlight of my day.”

Her parents are another source of inspiration. When asked to name a Caribbean creator who inspires her, Mz. Moodyy couldn't narrow it down to one. She says there are too many Caribbean creators, big and small, whose work she loves.

But if she had to choose her biggest inspiration, she would look even closer to home.

“If I had to mention someone it would be my parents to be honest. They’re not content creators but they’re the funniest people I know.”

They also play a major role in giving her ideas.

The bigger reason to succeed

Family isn't only where Mz. Moodyy finds her material. It's also at the center of what she hopes content creation can eventually accomplish.

Her biggest goal is to reach a point where her parents no longer have to work.

She wants to buy them land and build them a house as a way of giving back to two people she says have given, and continue to give, so much to her.

And she's thinking about the generation after her too.

Mz. Moodyy has a son, and one of her goals is to create enough security that he doesn't have to worry about anything, while building something that can eventually benefit his own children.

“I’d like to be able to create generational wealth for my family and even his kids to come.”

It's a big ambition behind content designed, on the surface, simply to make people smile.

For Mz. Moodyy, though, those two things aren't far apart. The family members who make her laugh, give her ideas, and motivate her to keep creating are the same people she hopes her success can one day take care of.

“Without them, I wouldn’t have the motivation to create anything today.”

And as she continues chasing her acting ambitions and bringing her humor to audiences across the Caribbean and beyond, the reason she keeps creating remains close to home.
