Vybz Keem Isn't Afraid to Be Different, and That's His Superpower

Before audiences knew him as Noah, Ackeem Poyser—better known as Vybz Keem—was a theatre student looking for a new stage.

Originally from Westmoreland, Jamaica, and a past student of Manning's School and The Edna Manley College School of Drama, Vybz Keem turned to social media after leaving theatre. He wanted a place where he could showcase his talent, make people laugh, build his own niche, and earn a living doing what he loved.

He began taking Instagram seriously in 2019 before finding rapid success on TikTok during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Today, his content ranges from relatable everyday situations and cultural differences to current affairs and completely original ideas born from his imagination. While comedy is his main focus, he also creates technology and lifestyle content from time to time.
What separates Vybz Keem from many comedy creators isn't just the jokes; it's the way he approaches creativity.

He believes some of his ideas are ahead of their time, which is why he isn't afraid to take risks or experiment with concepts that others might avoid.

One day he might play a country, western cowboy; the next day, a gladiator. No matter the character, he enjoys blending unexpected worlds with unmistakable Jamaican culture and patois. He also prides himself on the production behind each video, paying close attention to everything from sound effects to the smallest creative details. Perhaps most impressive is how he creates.

"I don't write my content. Everything just comes to me. I get the idea and develop from there."

That ability to build scenes and characters from imagination led to one of the defining moments of his career: the birth of Noah, a character that quickly became a fan favorite across Jamaica and beyond.

Years later, many people still recognize him as Noah before they recognize him as Vybz Keem. The character continues to generate income and remains one of the biggest milestones of his career, a reminder of how one creative idea can change everything.
But for Vybz Keem, success isn't measured only by views or recognition. Some of his most meaningful moments come from hearing how his videos have impacted people or from meeting supporters who recognize him in public.

When asked about his biggest goal, his answer is surprisingly simple: "Finding peace... however it may come."

Although he doesn't point to one Caribbean comedian as his inspiration, Vybz Keem says he respects the work of creators like Majah Hype, White Yardie, Dale Elliott Jr., and Negus Imara. He does, however, credit Jamaican tech YouTuber Shevon Salmon as an inspiration, admiring how he stayed committed to what he loves and built a global career around it. If he weren't creating comedy, Vybz Keem says he would likely be making tech content full-time.

For now, though, he continues doing what audiences know him best for: creating imaginative characters, unexpected scenarios, and uniquely Jamaican stories that could only come from the mind of Vybz Keem.
