Confidence Looks Good on Athena Bruce
Creating space for everybody through Caribbean culture, carnival and community.

For Athena Bruce, better known as Beba, content creation began with an unexpected setback. After being bitten by a tick during a hiking trip, she found herself stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic with little to do. On a whim, she recorded herself singing Bollywood songs and shared the video online.
It went viral.
Rather than treating it as a one-time moment, Athena recognized the potential to build something bigger and continued creating content after realizing what she was capable of.
Today, Athena has built a platform that blends body positivity, Caribbean culture, carnival, comedy, and everyday life. Whether she's filming carnival shoots, sharing humorous takes on Caribbean experiences, or creating energetic dance videos, her content carries a consistent message: confidence has no size limit.
What makes her stand out isn't just the topics she covers; it's the way she challenges expectations.
"I am not in the average weight class, and I am able to flip, head tops, and splits, which most people my size are unable to."
Outside of social media, Athena works as a pool manager and swim instructor, often bringing those experiences into her content as another way to encourage people to embrace movement and live confidently.
While follower counts are one measure of success, the moments that matter most to her happen in private messages. She regularly hears from people who tell her they've gained the confidence to wear clothes they once avoided, join a carnival band for the first time, or simply attend events feeling comfortable in their own skin.
"People text me and tell me that I made them gain confidence to wear what they want to wear, join a carnival band, or simply go to a party in clothes they normally wouldn't wear."
That mission extends beyond her personal platform. Athena founded Baccahanalia Ent, a Caribbean community created specifically for plus-size individuals. Through events like Pilates, aerial yoga, and other experiences that challenge stereotypes, she's creating spaces where people of every size can feel seen, supported, and celebrated.
Athena also credits fellow Caribbean creator Wello NYC as one of her biggest inspirations. What began as admiration from afar eventually grew into a genuine friendship, with Wello becoming one of her strongest supporters along the way.
For Athena, content creation has become much more than entertainment. It's a way to celebrate Caribbean culture while helping people see themselves differently. By building a community rooted in confidence, inclusion, and authenticity, she's demonstrating that some of the most meaningful influence doesn't come from going viral; it comes from giving others the confidence to embrace who they are.
