Meet Serena Gumbs: Bringing the Caribbean IT Girl Aesthetic to Life

For Serena Gumbs, content creation is about more than beautiful photos; it's about showing that Caribbean creators can build brands with their own unique identity.

Based in Saint Martin, Serena creates content around island living, skincare, and creator tips, blending lifestyle content with practical advice for fellow creators.

Like many creators, her journey started long before brand campaigns and speaking engagements. It began with simple YouTube challenge videos made alongside her younger sister, where creating content was simply a way to have fun together.

"Creating content began as YouTube challenges with my little sister, such as Sister Tag and Smack or Pass."

As her content evolved, so did her vision. Serena intentionally developed what she describes as the "Caribbean IT Girl" aesthetic—a style that reflects beauty, confidence, and island life while staying true to her roots.

"The Caribbean IT Girl aesthetic that I implement makes my style unique."

That distinctive identity has already opened doors beyond social media. Serena says two of her proudest achievements so far have been starring as the lead in a commercial for a regional brand and being invited to speak on a creator panel on a neighboring island—milestones that reflect her growing influence as both a creator and a professional.

"My most memorable moments are quite recent, where I was featured as the main character in a commercial for a regional brand and landed a speaker opportunity on a panel on a neighboring island."

Looking ahead, Serena hopes to continue expanding her career through partnerships, with a fully sponsored brand trip high on her list of goals. She also credits fellow Caribbean creator Joyjah of Belize as one of her biggest inspirations.

"Joyjah Estrada from Belize is such an inspiration to me. I see myself in her as a freckled girl."

Serena's story is a reminder that influence isn't measured by follower count alone. With a community of more than 26,000 followers, she's already turning her content into tangible opportunities, from commercial campaigns to public speaking engagements. In a creator economy that often focuses on audience size, her journey shows that a clear personal brand and consistent professionalism can create opportunities well beyond the numbers.

For Serena, the "Caribbean IT Girl" aesthetic isn't just a visual style; it's a way of representing Saint Martin, celebrating Caribbean beauty, and proving that creators from smaller islands can build brands that resonate across the region.
